In 1994 I prepared a banquet in Durban for King Goodwill Zwelithini, King of the Zulus. We were about to learn some important lessons on team culture.

The King arrived resplendent in his leopard-skin shawl, accompanied by his third wife and three of his children.

My wife had prepared a mini banquet on a tiny table and chairs for the King’s children, who turned out to be young adults.

Surreptitiously meals were replaced, furniture was swapped and gifts were substituted. No one was any wiser.
